Riccardo Cappato

Graduated with specialization achieved in Italy, he lived in Germany from 1993 up to 1995, where managed the Electrophysiology Center of the University of Eppendorf  in Hamburg, and later the Arrhythmology Center of the St.

Georg Hospital in Hamburg. In 2000 he came back to Italy as Director of the Clinical Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology Center of the Policlinico San Donato in Milan, one of the most important Institutes of the world. He contributed to the application of Catheter Ablation Techniques in the treatment of the different kinds of cardiac arrhythmias, from the simplest to most complex ones especially in the treatment of the atrial fibrillation therapy and of the arrhythmias which generate the sudden death.

Since many years he has been coordinating a pool of experts from all over the world.
He is one of the pioneers involved in the new technologies development related to the treatment of the sudden death and the inventor of the Subcutaneous Defibrillator. Member of the Heart Rhythm Society Organizing Committee, the prestigious American society of  Cardiac Arrhythmology.

President of the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society (ECAS). The Electrophysiologist (EP) definition is related to the role of the doctor engaged in the diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of the cardiac arrhythmias.
Among the methodologies of therapy catheter ablation, ICD, pacemaker devices have demonstrated to be highly significant in the latest years: particularly important the recent innovation of the subcutaneous defibrillator.
